The 2019 edition of the annual United Nations World Creativity and Innovation week was commemorated with a one day summit, which held on Thursday the 18th of April, 2019 by the Jos branch. With the theme, 'Emergence of a New Nigeria through Creativity and Innovation', the summit took place at the Nigerian Bible Translation Trust Fund building besides Crest Hotel, Jos and had numerous dignitaries in attendance.
The governorship candidate for the Alliance for a New Nigeria (ANN) in the just concluded general elections; Hon Alex Ladan was the first to present his paper. He spoke on the need to practice an inclusive system of government in which the potentials of citizens will be harnessed to its fullest. Sighting Israel as an example, He stressed that the quality of a people supersedes their quantity and the size of their territorial borders. He further stated the need to have a new crop of leaders who can apply different creative and innovative methods to problem-solving.
Up next was Mrs. Bridget Dakyes, the Executive Director of Women and Girl Child Rescue and Development Initiative, who spoke on the Emergence of a New Nigeria through Creativity and Innovation in fostering Unity. She asked thought-provoking questions like "why do we need a new Nigeria, how can Nigeria be reborn, and how can things be done right?" She also dwelt on the need to know our problems and devise creative and innovative means of solving them so as to foster peace and unity because as she said, "doing the same thing in the same way using the same methodology cannot yield any different result".
Two other paper presentations were taken by Mr. Set Anwo, whose paper dwelt on the creative and innovative ways of enhancing agricultural productivity. Mrs. Kaneng Rwang Pam, Managing Director of KTFM radio, spoke on using media in a creative and innovative way to achieve a new Nigeria and foster peace. She quoted Jim Morrison, who said: 'whoever controls the media, controls the mind'. She went on to state the roles of the media as; promoting entertainment, agriculture, tourism and exposure of industry among others. She concluded by listing media convergence, web convergence and creative content design; as areas in which innovation and creativity can enable the media birth a new Nigeria.
A panel discussion was moderated by Mr. Victor Prince Dickson. The panel included: Mr. Idowu; The Zonal Managing Director of NTA Jos, Mrs. Rosemary Ettaba; Chief Executive Officer of Korret Hamlet, Mr. Sani Mua'azu; an actor, movie director and producer and Mr. Theodore Long; the Managing Director of NHUB. Their discussion centered on Creativity and Innovation and how to support young creative and innovative minds on the Plateau.
There was poetry, musical interludes and the presentation of awards to all the panelists, as well as the introduction of a "Yellow Hat" project. Vote of thanks was said by Mr. Victor Prince Dickson to draw the curtain on the day long, impactful summit.
